Desert Financial Credit Union and Arizona Sustainability Alliance plant trees in Prescott Valley parks

Desert Financial Credit Union‘s mission is to help people run their ‘green’. that of Arizona the largest credit union is also engaged in community engagement and philanthropy. They are partnering with the Arizona Sustainability Alliance to plant 34 trees in two local parks in Prescott Valley to April 30e to celebrate Arbor Day.

Desert Financial employee volunteers worked together to plant 34 trees starting at 8:30 a.m. in Antelope Park, followed by Mountain Valley Park.

Vice Mayor Hunt said, “We are grateful that Desert Financial Credit Union and Arizona Sustainability Alliance have partnered with community service staff to add to the city’s urban forest, which promotes mental wellness and reduces stress. , heart rate, blood pressure and potentially incidences of obesity, asthma and diabetes – all so significant after a year of inactivity from Covid. “

The city of Prescott Valley received the Tree City USA Award as well as the Tree City USA Growth Award.

“Each year, our goal is to continue to develop our urban forest canopy through smart planning, careful selection of species and best maintenance practices. Both of these locations are heavily used by our community and the benefits of these trees will be felt for years to come, ”said Nick Groblewski, Director of Prescott Valley Parks. “Both parks will be the focus of major capital improvement projects this year and a large-scale tree planting is a great way to kick off those improvements. “

The Arizona Sustainability Alliance (AZSA), a nonprofit advocacy organization, supports sustainable development solutions through civic engagement, collaboration, and education. By inspiring and enabling the people of Arizona to work together, AZSA focuses on strengthening sustainable food systems, urban forestry, renewable energy and conservation.

Volunteers from Prescott Valley, Arizona Sustainability Alliance and Desert Financial took time on Friday, April 30, 2021 to plant trees at Mountain Valley Park and Antelope Park in Prescott Valley, Arizona.

Arbor Day celebrates the essential role trees play in the well-being of the earth and its people. The many benefits of trees include:

  • Energy conservation, shade and beauty for homes and neighborhoods
  • Removal of carbon dioxide from the air, impacting climate change
  • Prevent soil erosion and increase habitat for birds and wildlife

“We are thrilled to partner with Desert Financial to provide the Prescott Valley community with much needed shade cover. These trees will allow the community to enjoy these green spaces even in the warmer months, ”said Kayla Killoren, Adopt-A-Park Priorities Manager at AZSA.
