£ 50,000 boost for people calling Swansea’s pension line of credit

Earlier this year, the Boards of Swansea and Neath Port Talbot, together with partner organizations, launched the 0800 112 4763 free telephone number to help people over 66 who may not benefit from the pension credit.

So far, this helpline has helped people successfully claim 113 different benefits, with many people receiving more than one benefit. This generated a weekly increase in income of £ 5,050.10, or an average of £ 44.69 per claim.

But many more people in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot are still missing, as government figures show two in five people who are entitled to the benefit are not claiming it.

Alyson Pugh, a member of the Swansea Council Cabinet for Community Support, said: ‘As we head into winter the cost of living is rising and it has been widely reported in recent days that prices for l energy are expected to increase dramatically.

“We know there are retirees in Swansea who are already struggling to make ends meet and I urge them to call this helpline to check if they are lacking the money they are entitled to.

“We also know that every extra £ 1 a person receives is worth £ 4 for the local economy, so by claiming the benefits they are entitled to they help support local jobs and local businesses and we desperately need them,” especially now.

“The pension credit entitlement also provides applicants with access to social benefits, including help with hospital travel and NHS costs, access to a free television license, payouts. ‘discretionary assistance to help purchase unique items and they are automatically passported through the Housing Benefit and Housing Tax Reduction Financial Resources test.

“This is life-saving help that people are entitled to, so I urge anyone who thinks they are eligible to call the helpline where they will receive friendly and informative advice and assistance.”

Cllr Pugh added: “I am very proud that our social rights team is working so closely with our partners to highlight this and I want to thank all the organizations involved in this campaign.
